Hello members and supporters,
I have been following the COVID-19 outbreak updates through the Public Health Agency of Canada, and have listened to the concerns of members of UNIT/PITT’s community around public receptions. Although the PHAC currently classifies the public health risk as low, in consideration of artists, friends and family — particularly those with compromised immune systems and underlying medical conditions — the Friday The 13th event scheduled for this evening has been cancelled.
UNIT/PITT is the venue sponsor for several independently organized gatherings at 8EAST. As the outbreak situation evolves over the next few days and weeks, we will update our website and social media if the status of those gatherings change.
To learn more about COVID-19 and measures to mitigate its impact, including personal protective measures and social distancing, we encourage you to visit PHAC’s website: https://www.canada.ca/en/public-health/services/diseases/2019-novel-coronavirus-infection.html
UNIT/PITT also acknowledges the systems of oppression that may limit the access of certain groups to resources that can mitigate the transmission of COVID-19. As an organization, we express solidarity with communities that continue to be intentionally deprived of necessities and the right to self-determination, including Indigenous nations fighting to uphold their land sovereignty and agreements; populations without stable housing; those impacted by the opioid overdose crisis; and persons living with disabilities and chronic health conditions receiving inadequate support.
Upon request, I will do my best to provide links to additional readings on any of these topics.
