UNIT/PITT holds an archive spanning over 50 years of Vancouver and Canadian artist-run history, one of the most extensive archives of this history to date. The archive, which is stewarded by our Archives Committee and held on-site at our facility in Kitsilano and online via Vimeo, Soundcloud, and this website, showcases thousands of exhibitions, publications, music, events, happenings, advocacy, and much more. The archive currently lives in two forms: a growing digital archive of video, photo, and audio documentation, and a physical paper archive which we are currently beginning to digitize. Both are living projects, and we welcome inquiries from researchers, artists, students, or whomever might be interested in viewing this important archive.

Digital Archive

Documentation of past exhibitions, performances, and events is hosted on our Vimeo and SoundCloud channels, which serve as our ongoing digital archival record.

Our c.a.f.f. (calling all friendly faces) jazz series is one highlight of this archive:

Documentation photography for individual exhibitions and events also lives on each project’s own page — browse our full program history to explore it.

Paper Archive (in progress)

UNIT/PITT holds a paper archive dating back to our founding in 1975 as the Helen Pitt Gallery, including exhibition records, posters, correspondence, publications, and advocacy ephemera. We are in the early stages of digitizing this collection and hope to share selections here over time. If you have questions about the archive, or would like to arrange a visit to view items in person, please get in touch.
