Annual General Meeting

UNIT/PITT’s 2026 Annual General Meeting will be held on:

  • Sunday, August 16, 2026, 12:00–1:00pm
  • At UNIT/PITT, 2954 West 4th Avenue, Vancouver
  • A Board meeting follows, 1:00–2:00pm

We’ll present the year’s financial statements and reports and hold the election of directors. The AGM is open to the public, however voting is restricted to membership only. Community input is greatly valued, and will help determine U/P’s leadership and direction now and into the future.

Call for Board Members

As UNIT/PITT embarks on another 50 years, we are looking for four new board members to join our Board of Directors for a two-year term to help strengthen and ground our operations, including a Treasurer and an Archives Committee Chair. If you are interested in learning about arts governance, and supporting emergent and experimental artist practices in a time of increasing change and renewal across the sector, we would love to hear from you!

Qualities we are searching for

  • Knowledge of, or willingness to learn, budgeting and financial management in a non-profit setting
  • Experience or interest in grant writing, including editing and reviewing the ED’s work
  • Openness to process-based working styles, thoughtful reflection, and friendly collaboration
  • Interest in community-building and creative, non-traditional approaches to artist-led organizing
  • Contributes new perspectives to our governance and operations
  • A commitment to governance, programming, and operations from an explicitly de-colonial, anti-racist, and relational approach
  • A dedicated passion for artist-run culture, and for the value of arts and cultural organizations
  • Experience in non-profit or community-led organizations/initiatives (not limited to arts; we highly encourage applications from those with Board experience in other sectors)

Responsibilities of the role

  • Mandatory attendance at quarterly (4x/year), pre-scheduled 2-hour board meetings (hybrid/remote available)
  • Mandatory review and voting-in of the Annual Operating Budget and Annual Operating Plan
  • Involvement in the governance and oversight of the organization through a committee (Programming, Fundraising/Finance, Archives, People & Operations)
  • Potentially chairing a committee (meeting one-on-one with the ED on a semi-regular basis to report on that committee’s focus area)
  • Occasional volunteering and assisting with programming, event facilitation, and on-site events (not mandatory)
  • Collaboratively organizing U/P’s annual fall fundraiser
  • Keeping up to date on U/P operations via the Slack workspace
  • Executive Director oversight and organizational stewardship
  • Maintaining U/P’s commitment to the Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel (PACBI)

Artists are encouraged to apply. Applications from Black, Indigenous and racialized peoples; 2SLGBTQIA+, non-binary and gender non-conforming people; people with disabilities; and people with lived experiences of poverty will be prioritized. All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply.

Procedure

The application period opens on Wednesday, July 22, 2026 and closes on Friday, August 7, 2026. All applicants will receive a response by Friday, August 14, 2026.

After applications close, they will be reviewed by U/P’s current Board of Directors, and every applicant will receive a response. Candidates the Board puts forward will have their names presented for election at the Annual General Meeting, where directors are elected by a vote of U/P’s voting members in good standing (Bylaws, s. 4.2).

The AGM will be held on Sunday, August 16, 2026 from 12–1pm at UNIT/PITT (2954 West 4th Avenue, Vancouver), followed by a Board meeting from 1–2pm. We encourage prospective Board members to attend, but you do not need to be present to be elected.

Please note that U/P’s Bylaws do not permit proxy voting (s. 3.15). Members in good standing may vote either in person or remotely, but must attend the meeting to do so. A quorum of voting members must be present for the election to proceed: under our Bylaws this is the greater of 3 members or 10% of the membership, currently 4 voting members.

About UNIT/PITT

UNIT/PITT Society for Art and Critical Awareness is a charitable non-profit artist-run organization operating on the traditional and unceded territories of the Musqueam, Tsleil-Waututh and Squamish First Nations, in Vancouver BC. U/P supports art and critical awareness by offering the tools, space, resources, and mentorship for emerging artists and members of their neighbouring communities to engage in experimental creative work that advances a more expansive, inclusive reality for art and cultural production. After 3 years of remote operations, U/P moved into its new permanent facility at 2954 West 4th Ave in the Kitsilano neighbourhood of Vancouver in September 2023, where we present exhibitions, workshops, film screenings, and special events in our gallery and outdoor garden space.
