In the third week of An Exact Vertigo, we will be featuring The Biting School:

The Biting School is a company of Arash and Aryo Khakpour along with Parjad Sharifi – with backgrounds in Dance, theatre and scenography. The company has been present at Dancing on the Edge Festival for the past two years, was presented at Dance Days Victoria in 2015 and continues to explore new ways to share its concerns, questions and creations with its community.

Drawing from history, myths and philosophical inquiries, the ensemble is interested in exploring social dynamics, historical roots and political issues on a physical and visceral level. It strives to translate the anxiety, the grotesque, the trauma and the beautiful of our time into the flesh, the movement and the image. The Biting School presents the body and leaves the intellectual exploration to its audience. The Biting School creates works that are ethically engaging, physically demanding, theatrically bold and unexpectedly humorous.

Aryo Khakpour will be giving a public talk on Wednesday, March 18th at 7pm.

On Sunday, March 22nd at 2pm, Arash and Aryo will lead a workshop focusing on presence, the performing body and performing in presence of other bodies. Games and partner-work are powerful sources of joy for the The Biting School, therefore the workshop will utilize these as entry points to form a group of performing bodies.

All ages are welcome.

The workshop encourages the performer in all of us – experienced or not.

During gallery hours, the Unit/Pitt space will be occupied by Lexi Vajda.

Lexi Vajda will be continuing development of a piece titled “Reflections A, B and C” which explores conventions of spectatorship and engages viewers in playful and challenging dialogues.
