The School of Collaboration and Invention (SOCAI) is a multifaceted, participant-led program that engages young people aged 16-20 in art and design through practices of collaboration, performance, material in(ter)ventions, creative dissent, and artistic activism.

Concluding its inaugural six-week-long session at UNIT/PITT Projects with an exhibition and musical performance on 19th August, 2017, participants were encouraged to propose, plan and lead projects, while (re)imagining ways of collaboration often found in socially-engaged, artistic practices.

IM/MIGRATION AF was conceived by Jonathan Blessin, Lucas Chung, Sarah Kim, Tamsyn Kushner, Ashley Kusumoto and Wendel Vistan – a diverse group of local young people, who collaboratively attempt to investigate notions of cultural identity, belonging, displacement, storytelling, and mis/fortune. Exploring different modes of participation, each work invites visitors to actively shape content and conversations, and to contribute to a collective mapping of a multicultural city built on the unceded Coast Salish Territory of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh First Nations.
