Mathew Sawyer is a pretty amazing artist, and we’re lucky to have him here in Vancouver for a brief residency, for a month-long exhibition at the Pitt (both part of a project curated by Cate Rimmer, continuing in spring 2012), and for the Friday, September 16 part of the Wrong Wave festival. Mathew will be playing in the intimate environs of the Pitt, which suits his music well. Here’s Mathew’s song Don’t Want to Hang Around from Blue Birds Blood.

Doors open at 8pm and admission is free. Space at the Pitt is really limited — 15 E Pender is a small place — so plan on being there early. Wrong Wave ends with UJ3RK5: An Oral History with Music and Pictures by David Wisdom at 2pm on Saturday, September 17, at Emily Carr University in the South Building lecture theatre. The complete Wrong Wave schedule is here.
