As we were saying before, UNIT/PITT has come a long way. We’re settled into our new space, and we managed to keep presenting events and exhibitions while moving and renovations were going on. But now, it’s the future we need to look out for.
It was the support of our community that kept us going when funding cuts forced us to close the Helen Pitt Gallery back in 2009. It was the support of our community that helped us re-emerge as UNIT/PITT Projects in 2011. And many hours of volunteer labour, and many individual donations, enabled us to set up 236 East Pender as a stable location for the next 15 years.
Your support is as important as ever, as we continue to make improvements to our new building, and as we continue to show new art and projects by new artists, and reach new audiences. We’re building an organization that will be a platform for exhibitions, performances, publications, artists’ radio, and public actions — one that we hope will be around for the next generation of emerging artists, and the one after that, and many more.
A donation of any size will make a great difference — every little bit adds up, and will contribute to the future stability of UNIT/PITT. Our lease on the new space lasts until 2028; we’ve got a long run ahead of us, and your support will help to secure our stability in the years to come. You can make a donation via CanadaHelps, or directly (cash or cheque) in person or by mail.
If you can’t make a donation, there are other ways to show your support:
- Buy Pitt publications online, or in person.
- Become a member of the UNIT/PITT Society for Art and Critical Awareness.
- You can donate items to us that you no longer need, but we do (right now, that includes iMac or Mac Mini, a disc sander, a data projector, a 12-foot ladder, and a tablet). If you can help us out with any of these, please get in touch.
To those of you who have stood by us, again — we’d like to thank you. Your continued support is greatly appreciated.
